Sad News

Oh my. NU 107, the only credible Home of Rock in this side of the planet, will be signing off at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2010. The station will not physically close down, but it will be as if the NU 107 that we all came to love will meet a slow and painful death. Beginning Monday, the station will start playing music that would be offensive to most rockers. I don't know. Maybe we'll start hearing Rihanna there. Sob.

I must admit, I stopped listening to NU 107 some years back. I used to be a huge fan of Zach and Joey in the morning. But well, I had birthdays and eventually outgrew what now essentially sounds like noise to me. Of course I still have Gin Blossoms in my playlist. There is still P.O.T. here and Wolfgang. Heck, our wedding video played to The Lemonheads in the background. Notwithstanding the change in my musical taste, there is no denying that NU 107 was a huge part of my life growing up. So I can't help feeling like I lost something with this news.

Now that the owners have decided to mainstream-ize, I'm really thinking of Malachi. Where then will he get his standard dose of rock n' roll, when he's a teenager who's all hormonal and with so much teenage angst bottled up? Goodbye old friend. You will be missed.
