The Hunger Games - Part II

The movie confirmed what I was thinking all along - that the people from The Capitol look like Johnny Depp, at least when he's playing creepy roles like Willy Wonka or the Mad Hatter.

"I'm going to eat your children."
"I'm going to use all of your blushes."

Or, as a friend so expertly observed, the folks over at The Capitol could look like Tessa Prieto-Valdez.

"I'm going to make you wear feather boas."
{Some spoilers follow. Read at your own risk.}

I realize now that I shouldn't expect too much of movies based on books that I have already read. It just kills whatever excitement all the reading has built. But I would not have watched The Hunger Games were it not for the books so I should just stop complaining. Sheesh.

Pao liked The Hunger Games even though he hasn't read the first of the series. That means the movie can stand on its own. What I'd like to know is, whether those watching the movie were able to pick up important details that I think should not have been glossed over.

For example, do they know that Gale's name is in the reaping bowl 40+ times that year because he took on tessarae? Was it made clear  that Katniss was only feigning affection for Peeta? Does the audience know that a mockingjay is a cross between a blabberjay and a mockingbird and is intended to make a joke out of The Capitol? Katniss said "I love you both" to her mom and Prim when she was just about to leave for The Games. That was a very moving moment considering the relationship between Katniss and her mother. Why was that taken out?

This actor is hotSSsss. Is he really Miley Cyrus' boyfriend?
I can't help comparing this series with Twilight because although The Hunger Games is about something bigger than just another love triangle, it still revolves around one young heroine.

I only watched the first of the Twilight movies because I couldn't stand the acting, whereas the actors in The Hunger Games aren't all that bad. Word's out that they will be filming Catching Fire next year.

I can wait.
