Rub Ribs & BBQ

A couple of weekends ago, my sister-in-law treated us to lunch at Rub Ribs and BBQ in Tomas Morato.

Rub is in a very small space with only a few tables, even though they never seem to run out of customers. We were there a few minutes before they opened at 11 am. If you want to get seated at the only table in the restaurant that can seat more than 4 people, I suggest you do the same.

When we got home on Tuesday, Malik was wearing these paper frames that they made in school.

I wanted to be cool about it so I enthusiastically said "You have glasses! Like Clark Kent!" Malik was on his way up the stairs but he paused and said,"I have glasses like you!" with a smile on his face. That put a smile on my face too. :)

It turns out they made these in school to introduce the kids to Ninoy Aquino (August 21 is Ninoy Aquino Day). I wanted to know what Malik knew about him so I asked him again about his new glasses later in the night. He said "I'm Ninoy Aquino. He's the President. He was shot with a gun. He's a hero."

Malik may have confused Ninoy Aquino with his son, the current Philippine President Noynoy Aquino. But the rest of it is historically accurate. Malik especially got the hero part right. Well done.

ProP 6.0 - Tomorrow (Today)

Proud Parent Update - I knew we missed something yesterday even as we were happily lounging at home, watching events unfold at the #MillionPeopleMarch in Luneta. It was a pretty productive day in the domestic front. I went through Malik's toys, retired some of them, and cleaned out some to give to Izik.

Just as we were about to turn in for the night, I realized - "Waittaminute, Izik turns 6 months old today!" So we took these pictures of our 6-month old Buchokoy while promising to celebrate his birthday tomorrow (which is today).

Soon enough, tomorrow (today) came. We had cake and the customary family photo.

Malik and I then enjoyed a thorough game of peek-a-boo with Izik before he went to sleep via The Beatles' Penny Lane. Happy 6th month birthday my Buchokoy!

Today Malik asked if we could tape Lego blocks to his hands, chest and forehead.

We had no idea why he wanted to do it but we did it anyway. Afterall, it won't be long until he outgrows these things. And then we remembered...

The Clubhouse

I wanted to try out The Clubhouse at Robinsons Magnolia not because of the food but because the interiors were designed by who I hope will design our future home - Elle Uy.

True enough, the place did not dissappoint design-wise. I just plain love the feel of this place - it's country, it's industrial, it's eclectic. It's so many different concepts rolled into a home-y, coherent package, which is precisely what I want our home to be. Elle Uy has done it again apparently.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love the wallpaper, the shelving, the wood used for the shelving and the clock...

Hence, the "close-open" -

Tips for a travelling nursing mom

Hello, I hope everyone's staying safe and dry. I had to leave town for work on Monday. I was looking forward to the 1st night in so long that I will be able to get uninterrupted sleep. I made arrangements for Malik and Izik of course. But I must admit, not having to wake up in the wee hours of the morning sounded promising.

My short "time out" turned into an anxiety-filled one when flight after flight got cancelled because of the bad weather we've been having. Most of my officemates decided to rebook their flights to today. Some of us took the chance and went to the airport anyway. I was willing to brave the wait and the weather because I was sooooo eager to be with my boys -

To make a long story short, I did get home safe at close to midnight last night. This post is actually about travelling without your baby if you're a nursing mom.

Independence Day

Malik has been asserting his independence lately. He prefers, or at least tries to, brush his teeth, go to the potty, eat, and dress up by himself. He even reads the newspaper on his own. Seriously.

ProP 5.2 - All about the hair

Proud Parent Update - I forgot to take down notes about Izik's hair last night. Anyway it all turned out for the best because Izik's hair deserves a separate post. Why, you say? Well because it has a life of its own.

ProP 5.1 - Solid Eater, Pants Wearer

Proud Parent Update - We introduced Izik to the wonderful world of solid food last week. We've had experience in this area. Ahem. So we just went with the tried and tested, and bought organic rice cereal from Healthy Options.

Hooray for books

For a few weeks, all that Malik read was this book.

It has interesting stories about Barney visiting Santa's workshop in the North Pole, and Barney bundling up to play in the snow. They make a snowman, ride a sleigh and decorate a pine tree with food for little forest animals. It's a good book I'm sure but we couldn't relate for obvious reasons. There isn't snow in the tropics. And the closest we could ever get to riding a sleigh is riding a raft in flood waters. Fail.

We got the idea of introducing Malik to books set in the Philippines because of National Children's Book Day in Malik's school.

We didn't know there were so many of these books until now! Some were written as early as the 1980s like Hinlalaki written by National Artist Virgilio Almario. Kasing-tanda ko na ito, bumebenta pa din!

We've so far bought books only from Adarna. Their titles are sold in National Bookstore and in their showroom beside (surprise) Malik's school in Quezon City. But there are plenty of other Filipino childrens' storybooks out there. You're bound to find something that suits your fancy.

Now when we go out, Malik buys storybooks instead of toys. Recent purchases include "Chenelyn, Chenelyn" and "Tiktaktok at Pikpakboom". The habit isn't just educational, it saves us money too. Imagine that.

Ace Hotel & Suites

How is everyone's long weekend coming along? We just got back from our vacation in the city. I originally wanted to go someplace bucolic. Yun bang may insekto sa kama at may kalabaw sa bakuran. But we scrapped the idea the moment we realized that Izik's still too little to be travelling to the 'country.' So we booked a room at the Ace Hotel & Suites instead.

Best staycation everrr!
