Chanandler

Here's the amigurumi project that I told you I was working on. Tada!

Not the baby silly. I meant this bear -

He looks nice in pictures but he's really wonky when you meet him in person. I had trouble with the sewing and didn't know how I could cleanly attach the pieces together.

I also think his muzzle is lopsided and his eyes are unusually large. Hmmm.

His ears needed more work.

Notice the round hole in the middle? I have since learned how to make that disappear, among other things. Google is really my best friend when it comes to learning. Sadly, he's been abused by his owner, poor thing -

So I made him go to Belo to get new ears. Which one do you like better?

I named this bear Chanandler Bong. I love how he turned out despite (or maybe because) of his imperfections. I have rescued him from Izik. He's vacationing in the other room and will hopefully be preserved until Buchokoy learns how to better take care of him.

*Chanandler's pattern from here, by the way.

ProP 7.3 - Cookie!

Proud Parent Update - [Izik turned the ripe old age of 8 months yesterday. Before I move on *sniff* here goes one last post that I had lined up for ProP 7.]

Izik's two front upper teeth are starting to break through so we can't really blame him for biting into anything that he can put into his mouth - teethers (which are fine), Malik's toys, the remote control, his diapers and our hair brush (which are NOT fine).

To help him out, poor fellow, we got him the same teething biscuits that we gave Malik. We keep the biscuits in the freezer so they're harder and colder when Izik uses them. These are photos of when we first gave a biscuit to Izik. Enjoy! :)

What's this mom?
You mean I can eat it? Weh?
Cool.
Let...me...just...put it...in...my...mou...th.
Ahhh. There you go.
Ah-nom-nom-nom.

Pasyalan

I chanced upon the revamped QC Circle during Malik's school event. I told myself then that we should go back with Izik one of these days. Last Sunday was one of those days.

ProP 7.2 - If you're happy and you know it, raise your hand

Proud Parent Update - This is the point where, for purely selfish reasons, I wish Izik would stay a baby forever. I can't get enough of his two-toothed smile -

Quirky - Part Deux

Malik is impatient. He may have gotten the trait from either side of the family (Pao's Lolo Octave or my dad). Here he is waiting for his chicken in Bon Chon. Five minutes later, he's saying "I don't like adults. They don't like to bring me food." Uh-oh.

I showed pictures of Malik's new toys from the Disney Planes movie for a reason. It's because sometimes he not only pretends to be Gru -

- he also sometimes shows up as Dusty Crophopper in the mall. Zoom.

He used stamps for "tattoos" last month. He kept saying he's Jackie Chan. I don't remember seeing any Jackie Chan movie lately, much less one where he sports tattoos. I wonder where Malik got the idea.

Also last month Malik slipped after taking a bath and cut his lips for the first time. Can you see them here? Never mind Izik (that cute meddling photobomber in the background. Heehee)

The Internet says Malik should know which hand he prefers to write with by now. Uhm, I don't think so -

In any case, I'm still so proud because he's able to draw lines and circles. Have I shared his self-portrait?

This appears in the front cover of Malik's first ever progress report card. Teacher says Malik drew himself by himself. My friend noticed that circle in the middle and wondered whether that could be Ironman's heart. Pwede.

My old lady's hobby

The reason why I've been mentioning yarns a lot lately is that I've recently discovered [what I hope to be] a new hobby - making amigurumi! I was looking for party themes on Pinterest for Izik's 1st birthday party when I came across these monsters -

Many pins and click-throughs after, I learned that there's an entire universe of people who are into making crochet toys. I quickly ordered yarns and supplies online. Of course I couldn't wait for my supplies to arrive so I bought cheap acrylic yarn from National Bookstore and made this in the meantime -

Tada! This is your regular crochet ball that I pass off for a rattle because I placed beads in a plastic container inside before stuffing. The ball makes a sound when you shake it. Izik was impressed. He's very hard to please you know. Hehe

I actually started with this rabbit head first but couldn't make ears that are sized the same. I had to make 4 ears before getting it right! Toink.

I took a key chain off a Christmas corporate giveaway that I got last year and put it on the rabbit head, which has since been attached to Malik's bag.

I'm now working on a legitimate amigurumi project. My crochet supplies arrived in the mail on my birthday and I was also able to buy plastic needles and safety eyes then (happy birthday to me). I could tell you what I'm making but I may end up messing it up, so saka na lang. Here's a picture of me working on it. Even Izik is excited for me! Let's do this.

The day I turned 30ish

On my birthday, l woke up to Izik smiling at me as usual. Malik asked me the one question that he asks everyday: "Is it Saturday today?" (Because he can only play with the iPad on weekends. Heehee) Pao handed me his gift, which I expected to be a couple of Uniqlo t-shirts or a few skeins of yarn.

But look what I got -

Ha! We exchanged my brand-spanking new iPad mini for a white one in Makati. It was Izik's first time in Glorietta. He was impressed -

I haven't stepped foot in this place since foreverrr. Bago na sya ha. Pao let me go to a yarn shop there and then we went back home to pick-up Malik who had to go to school in the meantime. As soon as Malik woke up from his nap, we went to the mall for dinner with family.

Pao's Tita gave me cake. I blew out the candles and wished for two things this year. (I wrote down those two things here but decided not to tell. Isn't this how birthday wishes go?Hmmm.)

Before I knew it, the day has ended and we were off to bed. That's that. Come to think of it, nothing singularly fantastic happened the day I turned 33 (oops) but I spent it with my family - who are all healthy, alive and happy. That's more than enough for me. Happy birthday you silly old fart! ;)

Pancake versus Pancake

Long after the rest of the population has stricken off iHop from their must-try list, we were finally able to go a few weeks ago.

What's new with Malachi

Here's a quick round-up of things that Malik's been busy with lately. For well, you know, Malik's fans out there.

Hello fans.

ProP 7.1 - Crawler

Proud Parent Update - Breaking news, Pilipinas! Izik can now legitimately crawl! Whoopee.

He was able to go places previously by scooting like this.

Notice how his belly still touches the bed here.

Now he can move on all fours. We make him practice by placing toys out of reach.

Almost...

...there!
Show us again, Izik.

"This is easy, mama. All you do is move one knee ahead of the other...

...et viola!"
He is fascinated with socks, so sometimes we use those.

These are clean, by the way. Heehee

I am thinking of asking Pao to place the mattress on the floor again, but we wouldn't know where to put the bed frame. What used to be the blackhole that is the other room has been converted into Malik's bedroom (or a guest room for my mom when she's here). We will have to make arrangements to move the bed to a relative's house temporarily. We manage with the mattress still on the bed...

Izik: "But not for long! Wahaha"
